Fried Egg Rice Burger

A Korean-inspired rice burger built from two crisped rice patties standing in for buns, filled with a fried egg, melted cheese, gochujang mayo and lettuce. The rice patties are pan-seared until golden and crackling on the outside while staying tender inside, echoing bibimbap flavors.

Instructions

1
Prep In a bowl, mix cooled rice with 1/2 tsp sesame oil, soy sauce, cornstarch, sesame seeds, scallion, and nori until evenly coated and sticky.
2
Build Divide rice into two portions and press each firmly into a 3-inch patty, 1/2 inch thick, packing tightly so patties hold together when flipped.
3
Chill Rest patties on a plate in the fridge for 10 minutes until cornstarch sets and they firm up enough to sear.
4
Sear Heat remaining 1/2 tsp sesame oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Fry patties 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden crust forms and they release cleanly.
5
Fry Add vegetable oil to skillet, crack in both eggs, and fry over medium-low heat 2 to 3 minutes until whites set but yolks remain soft.
6
Melt Lay cheese slice over the eggs for the final 30 seconds of frying until it softens and drapes.
7
Finish Stir gochujang into mayonnaise in a small bowl until blended into uniform orange sauce.
8
Build Spread gochujang mayo on one rice patty, layer on lettuce, nori, cheese-topped eggs and gently press second patty on top.
9
Plate Serve immediately while the rice crust is still crisp.
